While you can find places to stay in southern California that are on the waterfront, that water is usually the Pacific Ocean. Not the case, however, for this 4-star resort in San Marcos, which is lakefront. The Lakehouse Resort is on Lake San Marcos, in the hills about seven miles inland from the coastal community of Carlsbad. The resort includes 144 guest rooms, cottages, and suites; a couple of places to eat; a coffee shop; and a couple of 18-hole golf courses.
